Laprea Education, Inc. ("Laprea Education," "we," "our," or "us") operates the lapreaeducation.com website, the developingdecoders.com website, and the Developing Decoders All Access Pass digital platform (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information about students, educators, parents, and other users of our Services.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using our Services, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Services and contact us at info@structuredliteracy.com.


1. Our Commitment to Privacy

Protecting the privacy and security of students and educators is a core value at Laprea Education, not a compliance obligation. We are guided by the following principles:

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our Services.
We never sell student data, in any form, to any party, for any reason.
We never use student data for advertising, behavioral targeting, or any commercial purpose unrelated to education.
Schools and districts retain ownership of their students' educational records at all times.
We are transparent about our data practices and will notify you promptly if those practices change.


2. Applicability and Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of our Services, including:

Students who access the Developing Decoders All Access Pass through a school or district account
Teachers, reading specialists, and instructional staff who use our platform and materials
School and district administrators who manage institutional accounts
Parents and guardians of student users
Visitors to lapreaeducation.com and developingdecoders.com

This policy applies to information collected through our websites, digital platform, and any related communications. It does not apply to third-party websites or services linked from our platform.


3. Information We Collect

3.1 Student Information

Student accounts are created and managed by teachers or school administrators, never directly by students. We collect only the following information for student accounts:

Student display name (which may be a full name, abbreviated name, or initials, at the teacher's discretion)
School name and grade level
Login credentials (username and picture-based password assigned by the teacher)
Reading activity data: books assigned, books read, time on task, and reading history
Comprehension quiz responses and results
Student reading recordings made within the interactive reader feature

We do not collect and students are never asked to provide: home addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, financial information, biometric data, race or ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, or any other sensitive personal information.

3.2 Educator and Administrator Information

For teachers, reading specialists, instructional coaches, and administrators, we collect:

Name and email address
School name and district affiliation
Role and grade levels served
Account login credentials
Platform usage data including books assigned, student groups created, and dashboard activity
Professional development or training completion records where applicable

3.3 Purchaser and Contact Information

For individuals who purchase products through our Shopify store or contact us directly, we collect:

Name, email address, and mailing address
Payment information (processed securely through Shopify; Laprea Education does not store payment card data)
Order and transaction history
Communications submitted through contact forms or email

3.4 Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our websites, we may automatically collect:

Browser type, operating system, and device type
IP address and general geographic location
Pages visited, links clicked, and time spent on pages
Referring website or search query

Important: Aggregate tracking technologies such as Google Tag Manager and Facebook pixel are used only on adult-facing pages of our websites (lapreaeducation.com and developingdecoders.com) for marketing and analytics purposes. These technologies are NEVER used on any pages of the Developing Decoders All Access Pass platform that are accessible to students, in accordance with COPPA.


4. How We Use Information

4.1 Student Data

Student data is used exclusively for the following educational purposes:

To provide access to the Developing Decoders All Access Pass and its features
To populate the teacher dashboard with student reading progress and activity data
To generate individual student progress reports for educator review
To support personalized bookshelf assignments based on phonics level
To store student reading recordings for teacher review and fluency assessment
To support MTSS and tiered intervention planning based on reading data

Student data is NEVER used for:

Advertising or behavioral targeting of any kind
Building individual profiles for commercial purposes
Sale or disclosure to data brokers or third-party marketers
Any purpose inconsistent with the educational services provided

4.2 De-Identified and Aggregate Data

Laprea Education may use de-identified and aggregate data for internal purposes including:

Improving product features and user experience
Analyzing platform usage patterns and feature adoption
Informing curriculum development and research decisions
Reporting on product effectiveness in aggregate, non-identifiable form

De-identified data means all information that could reasonably be used to identify an individual student has been permanently removed or obscured. Aggregate data is reported only at the group or population level and cannot be traced back to any individual. Laprea Education does not sell de-identified or aggregate student data to any third party.

4.3 Educator and Purchaser Data

Educator and purchaser information is used to:

Fulfill orders and deliver purchased products and subscriptions
Provide customer support and respond to inquiries
Send transactional communications related to orders, accounts, and subscriptions
Send optional marketing communications (you may opt out at any time)
Improve our products, services, and communications


5. How We Share Information

Laprea Education does not sell, rent, license, or share personally identifiable student information with any third party for commercial purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers: We share information with vendors and service providers who assist us in operating our platform and Services, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) for cloud hosting and infrastructure. All such providers are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of the information they receive and may not use it for any purpose other than providing services to Laprea Education.

Legal compliance: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or when necessary to prevent fraud or protect the safety of our users or the public.

Business transitions: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all of our assets, student data will only be transferred to a successor entity that is bound by the same privacy commitments described in this policy. Affected schools and districts will be notified prior to any such transfer.

With your consent: We may share information for other purposes with your explicit prior consent.


6. Data Security

Laprea Education maintains a comprehensive security program designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all user data. Our security practices include:

SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmitted between users' browsers and our servers
Encryption of data at rest using industry-standard protocols
Cloud infrastructure hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which maintains a FERPA Compliance Program and SOC 2 certification
Role-based access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel only
Regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and patch management
Staff training on data privacy and security practices
Confidentiality agreements for all employees, contractors, and vendors with access to user data

In the event of a data breach or security incident that affects student or user data, Laprea Education will:

Investigate and contain the incident promptly
Notify affected schools, districts, and users within the timeframe required by applicable law
Cooperate with affected parties to mitigate harm
Take corrective action to prevent recurrence


7. Data Retention and Deletion

Laprea Education retains student data only for the duration of an active school or district subscription. Upon expiration or cancellation of a subscription, student data is deleted within 60 days unless a longer retention period is requested in writing by the school or district.

Schools, districts, and parents may request deletion of student data at any time by contacting info@structuredliteracy.com. We will fulfill verified deletion requests within 30 days.

Educator account data is retained for the duration of an active account and deleted within 60 days of account closure upon request.


8. Legal Compliance

8.1 FERPA

Laprea Education complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We operate as a "school official" under FERPA when schools share student education records with us for the purpose of providing our Services. Student data is used only to fulfill our educational service obligations and is never disclosed in violation of FERPA. Parents of minor students and eligible students have the right to inspect, review, and request correction of their education records through their school or district.

8.2 COPPA

Laprea Education complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Student accounts are created and managed by teachers or school administrators, who provide consent on behalf of students consistent with COPPA's school consent exception. We do not use student data for advertising, and tracking technologies are never deployed on student-accessible pages of our platform.

8.3 New York Education Law §2-d

Laprea Education is committed to protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and security of student, teacher, and staff data in accordance with New York Education Law §2-d and its implementing regulations. Our practices are designed to comply with all requirements under §2-d, including:

Student personally identifiable information (PII) is not sold or released for commercial purposes
Parents have the right to inspect and review their child's education record
State and federal laws protecting student data confidentiality are followed
Parents have the right to have complaints about data breaches addressed

Complaints regarding possible breaches of student data may be submitted in writing to: Chief Privacy Officer, New York State Education Department, 89 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York 12234, or via the NYSED online form at www.nysed.gov/data-privacy-security/report-improper-disclosure.

8.4 State Student Data Privacy Laws

Laprea Education is committed to complying with applicable student data privacy laws across all states in which our products are used, including but not limited to California (SOPIPA, CCPA), Colorado, Illinois, Virginia, and Washington. We are available to sign Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) National Data Privacy Agreements (NDPAs) and state-specific data privacy agreements with districts that require them as part of their procurement process. 9. Rights of Parents, Guardians, and Eligible Students

Parents of minor students and eligible students (students 18 and older) have the following rights with respect to student data held by Laprea Education:

The right to inspect and review their child's education records held by Laprea Education
The right to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete records
The right to request deletion of their child's data
The right to be notified of any unauthorized disclosure of their child's data

To exercise any of these rights, please contact your child's school or district directly, or contact Laprea Education at info@structuredliteracy.com. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.


10. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our websites (lapreaeducation.com and developingdecoders.com) use cookies and tracking technologies including Google Tag Manager and Meta (Facebook) pixel on adult-facing pages to support website analytics and marketing. These technologies help us understand how visitors use our websites and improve our communications.

The Developing Decoders All Access Pass student platform does not use advertising cookies, behavioral tracking technologies, or third-party analytics tools on any pages accessible to students.

You may disable cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain features on our websites.


11. Student Privacy Pledge

Laprea Education affirms the following commitments to the schools, districts, parents, and students who use our Services:

Commitment 1: We will collect, use, share, and retain student personal information only for purposes for which we were authorized by the educational institution, teacher, or parent.

Commitment 2: We will not sell student personally identifiable information (PII) under any circumstances.

Commitment 3: We will not use or disclose student information collected through our educational services for behavioral targeting of advertisements to students.

Commitment 4: We will not build a personal profile of a student other than for supporting authorized educational purposes.

Commitment 5: We will not make material changes to this privacy policy without first providing prominent notice to account holders and allowing them choices before data is used in any manner inconsistent with the terms under which it was originally collected.

Commitment 6: We will not knowingly retain student PII beyond the time period required to support the authorized educational purposes, or as authorized by the parent or student.

Commitment 7: We will disclose clearly in contracts and privacy policies what types of student PII we collect and the purposes for which it is used or shared with third parties.

Commitment 8: We will support access to and correction of student PII by the eligible student or authorized parent, either by assisting the educational institution or directly when information is collected with student or parent consent.

Commitment 9: We will maintain a comprehensive security program designed to protect the security, confidentiality, and integrity of student PII against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.

Commitment 10: We will require that vendors with whom student PII is shared in order to deliver our educational services are obligated to follow the same privacy and security commitments.

Commitment 11: We will allow a successor entity to maintain student PII in the case of a merger or acquisition, provided the successor entity is subject to the same privacy commitments.

Commitment 12: We will incorporate privacy and security considerations when developing or improving our educational products, tools, and services, and will comply with applicable laws.


12. Changes to This Policy

Laprea Education reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make material changes, we will post a prominent notice on our websites and notify school and district account holders by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of our Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
